I have to say it was a good day

Boychild just gave me a round of belly farts for the first time ever. This was after a major tickle sesh with dad. I think we’ve done a great job raising him so far. Earlier today, I felt a surge of love when BC was covered in yogurt with one foot in a box and a pen top on his thumb smiling and saying, “I feel happy now!” He also told me about a dream for the very first time.  I mean, I think it was a dream. After his big nap, I picked his little sleep-flushed self out of the crib and he said, “Mama, went to playground.” I said “what did you do?” He said “went down the slides!”  It’s an endless parade of hilarious non sequiturs and surreality and I love it.

We played with  fake food today in the library and he made me dinner. We decided the plastic cut carrots were hotdogs. We opened a waffle. We baked peas.  I tried to get him to incorporate the plastic octopus as sushi, but he declined. Is is weird to want to eat one of your favorite animals? I love octopi, but I also want to eat them. Anyhow, at the library he also fed a couple of babies, too. Then we hopped over to the post office where he demanded a cotton-candy flavored lollipop.

I love that he’s obsessed with my too-pink fingernails. He asks me “what happened your nails?” And when I explain that it’s paint, he wonders “where YOUR nails?” When you think about it, nail polish is really confusing. Wait, you cover the tips of your fingers in lacquer? Weird.

It me. From the great kid’s book “Vegetables in Underwear.”

It makes me so happy that he’s concerned that the potato in the book Vegetables in Underpants looks unhappy.  “What happened?” he asks. I try to explain to him that the potato is wearing underwear that’s too little, and that it’s embarrassed. This potato is actually how I feel trying on bathing suits. BC is very concerned for its feelings. When he hears a child crying in the grocery store, he says “What’s wrong with baby?” He’s a sweet and caring tyke.

Right now, BC is ramming a yellow truck into his father and throwing magnets at me as I type. Aaaaand he just flipped over his potty. He still has some manners to learn. But it was a good day.
